New way to stop braces wires from poking; first US woman dentist day

Just found this new product – maybe ask your orthodontist about it? Check out Top Stop from OrthoCenturyXXI. It’s a tiny blue plastic cap that seems to be securely anchored over both ends of an archwire. The idea is that when your teeth shift (as they should), perhaps closing up a gap, more of the archwire sticks out of the last bracket. You don’t want it poking you in between orthodontist visits, and this cap is supposed to take care of it.

On this date in 1866, Lucy B. Hobbs became the first woman to graduate from a dental school, the Ohio College of Dental Surgery, in Cincinnati. She practiced dentistry in Ohio, Iowa and Kansas and is said in her lifetime to have inspired more than a thousand women to become dentists. Read more about her on Wikipedia.
